Well it never really got cold this week, just a dusting this morning
then again upto 5.2°C this afternoon. It looks pretty certain the high is just going to sit over us for most of the rest of the month, leaving us with gloom, albeit mainly dry. Roll on spring, than I can get on with things. -- Keith (Southend) "Weather Home & Abroad" http://www.southendweather.net Twitter:@LawnscienceEssx |

Just when you write things off though... Looking at the possible position of the high pressure I would imaging that there could be issues with poor air quality later on? Spring will be nice, but it can wait just for now .... Just when you write things off though... Think they call it the 'stinky high syndome' Winter is never over where I live until end of March when the daffs are finally out! Had some good snowfalls in March up here. Plenty of daylight then too to go out and play. Will -- http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm Will Hand (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) --------------------------------------------- |

Well upto the 19th going by the ensembles which are almost 100% in agreement, any variations are on subtle: http://www.meteociel.fr/cartes_obs/g...mode=1&ech=384 Even if the wind turns easterly, there's nothing much to talk about to our east, even Moscow above freezing. The high just ain't in the right place, but this was always hinted to be the case. Just having a sulk ;-) -- Keith (Southend) "Weather Home & Abroad" http://www.southendweather.net Twitter:@LawnscienceEssx |

While sitting in a bus shelter out of the wind, and the full sun on me, it felt quite warm. Though I did have a thick jumper and coat on, as well as my long johns and wool trousers. Temps here up to 5.5c. However, the sun has got a bit of heat in it now. We've 9hrs 10mins of daylight now, so that's the same amount of daylight as on the 8th November. Joe Egginton Wolverhampton. |

Roll on spring, than I can get on with things. Blimey, too true! I was on a site visit this afternoon and it was lovely and sunny with no wind and at nearly 6C it was OK. Then a breeze picked up and what was a pleasant couple of hours turned into something rather unpleasant as that wind had a nasty, cold edge to it. In the end abandonment was the only answer as you can only spend so long stood out in that wind and not start to get chilled. Plus faces and fingers had gone numb so discussing and writing wasn't easy! It makes me want to head south! But I cannot go any further without having to speak French (which I don't). -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Check out this week's temps in the Millevaches (Limousin), numbingly cold and quite snowy too! Thinking of retiring there, like UK but a bit more extreme at the warm and cold ends. |

Trouble is, are there any reasonably well-paid jobs for an environmental scientist there? T'missus might take some convincing to move.... and I would miss the Devon spring and summers. I spent a good part of the winter a few years back in Lisbon. It wasn't wall-to-wall sunshine every day and it rained a lot but there were many days with lots of sunshine and in the early afternoon it was around 16C and you could sit outside in short-sleeves and enjoy a cold beer. The extra intensity and warmth of the sun light immediately hit me and it felt good. Getting into the car in the morning when it had been left in the sunshine, it was hot and you had to wind the windows down. I'd never experienced that before in early January! -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

OTOH there is always the chance of an overseas placing... -- ------------------------------ This email was sent by a company owned by Pearson plc, registered office at 80 Strand, London WC2R 0RL.
