One clap of thunder at about 1500 GMT.
Lots of hail showers all day. Sunny in between which is an improvement on yesterday when we had 16.5 mm in my 5 inch gauge. Just watched Twirlywoos on CBeebies telly. No whirlwinds here though. Must suggest it as a storyline though. Len Wembury |

Temperature was pretty constant for most of the day at around 6.0C with a maximum of 6.5C this afternoon. Rainfall total since midnight is 5.0 mm. Today's highest temperature actually occurred at midnight (8.1C) though the peak was 10.6C at 21:00 yesterday. The conditions soon deteriorated even at modest elevation when compared to the relatively benign weather here in the lowlands. I visited Dunkeswell in the Blackdown Hills this morning and the weather was very unpleasant with horizontal heavy sleet/snow/hail mix blown in on a very strong wind. Face and hands soon became numb on a site survey due to the high wind-chill and even the best waterproof clothing couldn't keep that soaking out for long. Glad to get back down to my 'tropical' enclave of weather serenity. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

The wet gets in eventually. I guess the best would be to cover yourself in a plastic sheet. Now that would be waterproof......but not very 'breathable'. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Well I went out in horizontal heavy snow this afternoon to walk the dog and all I was wearing was a non-waterproof top and ordinary trousers. Just shook the snow off when I got home and my coat/trousers were practically dry. No gloves or hat as it wasn't cold enough at circa 1C or thereabouts. But I did have my hood up so I could see facing into the snow. Perhaps the snow was very wet at Dunkeswell? Thunderstorms are not common in Devon but even rarer in February. Looking back at the weather radar it was embedded in a small but active trough
