Another day with a humid NW airstream and low cloud braking as it descends into the Bay. It's been the story of the Bank Holiday Week End, which has been very different on the 2 coasts. Not just the difference in sunshine amounts, but temperature, often 5C in as many miles.
The visibility maps on XCWeather etc. have been pretty misleading, as for West Cornwall they are based on Camborne, which has really suffered being near the north coast and a particularly prone area at that. Outside of the sea fog, which has been much of west Conwall, the visibility has been generally good or very good. The pictures at http://www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/may23sennen.html taken Saturday evening demonstrate this. Thick sea fog just offshore, but very good visibility just outside of the fog bank. Currently (12:50) 16.2C in Penzance with good sunny spells. Good Bank Holiday, weatherwise, in Penzance. Graham Penzance |

Plenty of sunshine this evening. Maximum of 19.9C and nearly 5 hours of sunshine so far. High UV again with 8.0. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

High UV again with 8.0. Looked in the mirror this evening (not the best experience) and my face is now as brown as it normally is in July! Just shows how high the UV has been this Spring in the SW. Fairly sunny start in Penzance, 15.2C @ 09:00 (Max was 17.1C yesterday). There does appear to be a thicker patch of misty low cloud just off the north coast now though. The UV topped 10 on St Martin's (no doubt reflection off the mist & sea helping) a few days ago. The 1st time I'm aware of this happening before June. Only 6.8mm of rain since 13th. Hopefully there'll be enough swell to justify a visit to Sennen tomorrow morning, where there (should!) be sunshine, a F2 just offshore SW wind and a clean 3' wave, instead of the recent messy onshore conditions.
