Sunniest and warmest on/near the coast yesterday. 20.6C Max in Penzance (rather higher than I expected), 20C on St Martins, 19C on the cliffs at Land's End.

2 or 3C colder than Penzance at Culdrose where the convergence cloud dampened temperatures - it was quite thick at times. Once again, the reverse of the forecast with regard both temperature (the standard 17C was forecast as a max at 09:00) and cloud cover. Much less cloud developing over the Land's End peninsula than the Lizard, so Bosullow on the moors exceeded 12 hours. The evening was glorious with near calm conditions.

Sunny this morning after the coldest night of the month so far, min 11.2C which is at least 5C colder than the SST. A F3 SE breeze, which is forecast to fade away this afternoon as it veers southerly.

====================

Warm on dartmoor too, despite the forecasts. Over 21C yesterday here in
Haytor and now at 1030 it is +17.3C and climbing steadily in the hot
sunshine. Forecast max. was 17C for today, already exceeding that.
Feels very warm too after a night of sleeping with no covers and window wide
open and now in tee-shirt and shorts just about right with a refreshing
breeze. Looking forward to my 7 mile walk this evening in balmy warmth.

Interesting the way unstable looking medium level cloud (at least, that's how I would describe it here) developed rapidly across much of Devon & Cornwall this afternoon. After a virtually cloudless morning, cloud cover was 10% at most 14:00, by 14:45 it was near 80%.

Lumpy enough to give a few large drops of rain in Penzance 16:00. Also some marked fluctuations in wind strength over short periods. One moment muggy & fairly still, then fresh & gusty.

Directly onshore wind resulted in the maximum temperature in Penzance being slightly down on yesterday, at 20.3C. Places locally away from the onshore coast exceeded 22C, E.g. St Ives 22.4C (so far) and Camborne similar.

The weather's nearly always interesting in some way.

Indeed it is! Some very aesthetically pleasing high level cloud today, with
waves and fish scale effects. A good show, I would say.
