Roll on next week! 15/11/15 Yet another day of tropical ****e. Continuous rain and drizzle all day and stupidly mild at 11-12C. Poor visibility and yet another day of drying out sodden waterproofs. This makes 14 days of tropical rubbish and one decent day with polar air so far. Circa 5 hours of sunshine all month and circa 280 hours of drizzle or rain so far. A bit blowy, but just cut the grass and the sun keeps popping out and it feels quite warm out there :-) I had to cut the grass yet again today. It seems to have forgotten it should be slowing down now it is nearly winter. The whole cul-de-sac smelt of cut grass today as my neighbours all got their lawn mowers out and quickly made use of the dry, bright conditions. My overnight minimum was 14.4C! Warmer than many a summer night this year. The temperature was 15.3C at 01:00!! The rose in the front garden is still in full flower as are the nasturtiums. I'm still picking chillies and the odd runner though the tomatoes have long gone..... Still awaiting the first frost though this year is nothing exceptional with respects to that. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Ha ha I cleared my greenhouse a week ago. Everything is bare now. Runners have blown/rotted away. Only veg. left are now parsnips, swedes, kale and leeks. Vile weather, grass has grown a bit but I'm buggered if I'm going to go out in soaking horizontal drizzle to cut the blasted stuff. It's not that long anyway, just 4 inches and it can stay that way till March now. Remaining summer pots will be put into the conservatory tomorrow in readiness for the return of more normal conditions. Looking forward immensely to next weekend with snow showers and frosts, even better when the forecast starts emphasising how much of a shock it will be. The real shock though is how ridiculously mild it has been so far this month. I can't remember that happening before. -- John Hall "Honest criticism is hard to take, particularly from a relative, a friend, an acquaintance, or a stranger." Franklin P Jones |

The real shock though is how ridiculously mild it has been so far this month. Was about to start a thread when saw this. My first thought was "shock to the system"! Not sure whether the global models are good enough yet to pick up/develop polar low detail but I wonder whether there might be anything in there to surprise. EC midday has a nice bracing northerly worthy of a good coastal walk down in Whitstable. Unlikely detail at this stage but GFS keen to accumulate some snow in the south/south-west: http://expert- images.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/2015/11/15/basis12/ukuk/ weas/15112118_1512.gif Richard |

The real shock though is how ridiculously mild it has been so far this month. That reminds me, I must get the 'house plants' back inside the conservatory for the winter! The yuccas and spider plants have been thriving outside in the humid, mild conditions. It will be a shock to the system when the colder weather arrives; it was quite a shock last Friday as that wind had a keen edge to it. Unlike you Will, I quite like this weather and today was a lovely dry day with some sunshine (albeit brief intervals) and a temperature between 14C and 15C. A few butterflies and other insects still flying around. The oak trees are doing their usual of keeping their leaves until the very last minute. Not looking forward to any cold weather (especially snow - you don't mean here do you Will?), though the extra sunshine will be some recompense.
