Outbreaks of snow all day here. Particularly heavy late afternoon. With
temperatures in the range +0.3C to +1.5C net accumulations were limted
with 2-3cm by late afternoon. All stopped now as the area of
precipitation has moved away to the south.

My sister has been up in the hills south of Edinburgh - near Innerleithen -
got some terrific photos of good, deep, fresh snow and the kids throwing
themselves around in it!

Lovely view - are they the Pentland Hills?

It looks just like the kind of place that I could retire to!

Are there any houses on the market by any chance?

Bruce.

Goodness, what a beauty. What sort of height are the hills in the
background?

Yes, the view is the northern edge of the Pentlands. Caerketton 1568' is
the highest hill in this view. The wood is, not surprisingly, known as
the 'T' wood although it is actually a cross shape.
Horseyculture, sheep farming and golf (declining- 2 out of 3 local clubs
closed since 2013) and the British Army are the main land uses with the
dry ski slope and rollinghaggis http://zorbedinburgh.co.uk/ on the far left.

Great views from/of those hills but vicious winds here in a WSW'y

It looks just like the kind of place that I could retire to!

Popular with retired folk and dog owners. I have a cat btw.

In the pic Caerketton has a height of 1568'. This panorama
http://www.swanstonweather.co.uk/Ima...onPanorama.jpg has
Allermuir Hill 1617' as the highest point. The highest part of the
Pentlands is Scald Law (1900'), 5 miles SW of here.
They are Marilyns, apparently.

Some more images (so far)
http://www.swanstonweather.co.uk/Images%20Link.htm

Local webcam
http://www.eastsidecottages.co.uk/webcam/ 6 miles SW and at 1200'asl.
Some seriously cold and snowy places down there and in the Borders.
Accounts from 2 folk (one a met man) of car thermometers showing -20C in
late 2010.
