We drove up the mountain hoping to get to the top of the volcano but the ski lift was closed because of ice. The snow line was about 1800m that day. It was 20C at sea level. -- Brian Wakem Lower Bourne, Farnham, Surrey http://www.brianwakem.co.uk/weather |

I don't normally do winter sun holidays, but sometimes you have to ....... Owner said that there was a terrific storm where we are to be staying and that the access road was washed away, we always do have eventful holidays. I got ill in the Himalayas a few years ago and many years ago in the Alps I managed to slide 800 feet down a snowy hillside, luckily uninjured. Similar snow level. We went to the top of El Teide which was above the weather and I'd guess the temperature was about -3°C with very strong sunshine, the sky not so much blue as black. I got quite a red face in half an hour. Pressure about 645 mb so that 35mm film canisters opened with quite a pop. The top of El Teide is 3717 m, 12195 ft. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey, a paltry 557 ft, 169 m. |
