Default [WR] Haytor 10/3/16 (First daffodil)

The warm sunshine this morning has encouraged my first daffodil to open.
A bit earlier than normal, but still no February daffs. I'm still waiting
for my first Day 100 :-)
Previous years:
2016 March 10th Day 70

2015 March 26th Day 85

2014 March 16th Day 75

2013 April 8th Day 98

2012 March 10th Day 70

2011 March 20th Day 79

2010 April 2nd Day 92

2009 March 15th Day 74

2008 March 2nd Day 62

2007 March 6th Day 65

2006 April 1st Day 91

2005 March 16th Day 75

2004 March 4th Day 64

2003 March 16th Day 75

The cold winters of 2006, 2010 and 2013 correlate with the late opening
times.
Most effect is the weather in Feb/Mar.

A different world down here in lowland Surrey, where the first daffodils
were out in mid-January, which is ridiculous and I think unprecedented.
I now have what I think I recall my late father saying was a camellia in
bloom in my garden (I'm no gardener myself), which is also ridiculously
early.

I am assuming Will that the daffs you refer to are the same type in the same place since 2003?
Interesting data if so.

The trouble with people reporting their first daffs is that there are so many types. Some special types are bred for early flowering like the Cornwall and Scilly daffs. Others naturally flower late in the season.

As regards Camellias, some types flower regularly at Christmas here in Wembury. In my garden it is usually February, but can be delayed by cold weather.

You have beaten me Wil. I have no daffodils out in my garden in High Wycombe. There are some out locally but not mine. My elevation is approx 180m which explains why.

Native wild daffs have been out for a couple of weeks now in my garden
and surrounding fields. That's the earliest I've known since moving here.

I even saw a bluebell in flower the other day, though it was in a very
sheltered spot. The native bluebells in my garden still have a way to go
before they'll be in flower.
