Far from being an expert in these things but wasn't that a cold front
that went through this early afternoon? If so then it didn't live up to its name because as the band of broken cloud cleared to the south there was a sudden rise in temperature and humidity. I was expecting fresher air. Even allowing for an increase in the sunshine (which was very hazy), the temperature rose at 16:00 to 25.6C with a DP of +18C at the time. This was from a meandering temperature of 22C to 23C before the CF arrived even with some sunshine. I've just noticed that there was a subtle change in wind direction from WNW to NW as the front arrived then afterwards there was an hour of the wind turning SW and this coincides with the hike in temperature and humidity. The wind then turned NW again and the temperature and humidity slowly declined. Now a sunny, warm evening with cloudless skies. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

The wind then turned NW again Sounds like it was a double cold front - two fronts that have ended up close together. Both were weak by the sounds of it. It is fairly common. Having said all that, the front passed through here at 0610z as a single feature, so it may have been something else that caused the effect. Perhaps a short-lived sea breeze effect due to surface heating which delayed the clearance of the moister warmer air. The atmosphere is a complex beast which more often than not doesn't resemble the Norwegian frontal model :-) -- Freddie Pontesbury Shropshire 102 m AMSL http://www.hosiene.co.uk/weather/ http://twitter.com/PontesburyWx for hourly updates ----Android NewsGroup Reader---- http://usenet.sinaapp.com/ Quite a sharp wind veer here Freddie, associated with a clearance of the north coast sea fog, drop in wind speed, and a rise in temperature. See noon http://www.landsendweather.info/met/mainframe.htm Graham Penzance - absolutely glorious afternoon |
