http://www.amazing-aviation.com/ Some great photos there - including one of the plane's shadow surrounded by a Brocken Spectre. But I wonder if the starscapes are two pictures joined - I would have thought the shutter speed too slow to avoid camera shake. But then they might have been HDR photos. Shame there's no technical info. |

The site doesn't seem to know the term either -- I can't find the picture by using their search :-( Have seen one for myself though, from a glider in which we had no cameras -- or oxygen otherwise we'd have been a lot higher [1] and might have missed it. [1] The lift in wave from Mull while we were over Cairngorm was such that I think that 20,000ft was easily possible that day. Red letter day in any event, and still the highest I've reached in a glider. (We knocked it off long, long before 20,000!) Mike |

Mike I've several times seen a Brocken Spectre from gliders - the best views are in lowish light and not too far above the clouds. (Highest I've ever been in a glider was 17,000 feet, and yes, I was using oxygen. Our club record is 24,500 feet and the UK record is not far short of 38,000 feet.) Anne |

Mike You're right, they called it cloudsurfing, it's the one at the end of the new photos on the home page. |

Seen one of me while walking - you can only see your own, not someone else's Brocken Spectre, who is standing at the side of you, I believe! |
