Default Thunder off towards Bedford

Out with the dog at 10 o'clock, and there was quite a light show and
distant rumbles way off to the SE, in the direction of Bedford. Didn't
realise that was forecast for tonight. It's now 11pm, and the radar
shows some very heavy rain just to the south of Peterborough. Skies here
relatively clear with stars and moon clearly visible.

Just passed over us in North London (2300). Burst of furious rain with claps of thunder. Quieter now. Ps lovely lunchtime here. Mild soft sunny SW breeze.

No rain here at all, Ian. Funny county, this Northamptonshire.

I remember back in 1981 (I think) when I was living in Brackley, we were
under about two feet of snow with temperatures freezing the balls off
the local monkeys. I came up to Northampton (20 miles to the north) that
weekend to see some friends, and they couldn't believe what we were
living through. They were basking in bright sunshine, without a flake of
snow to be seen.

dgoldstone's thunder (previous reply) was a different storm. You must
have caught the edge of the Bedford storm on its way to Peterborough.

Hi Jim, yes we do get quite a variation in Northants.
Far SW nearly in Cotswolds, far NE nearly in the fens.
Several times I've visited Northampton to find 15cm snow while in Raunds
just 1-2cm. (and visa versa) Always seems worst in Daventry area with that
Little bit of extra elevation.
