I hadn't heard that he was going anywhere. Where did you hear that he
was leaving?

I saw a few comments on Twitter over the past couple of days from BBC
colleagues.

He has left the BBC, he has confirmed it on his Twitter account.
I last saw him yesterday after the lunchtime news and did not know he was leaving.

The BBC was too europhilic for him. BBC = Euro Pravda.

That's a shame. I think he was probably the best of the BBC
forecasters/presenters. Hopefully we will still see him from time to
time freelancing in documentaries, something that he seems to have been
doing increasingly over the last few years.

As he said on Twitter - "Time to try something new". I can certainly identify
with that thought. At various stages in my career I've taken 'leaps of faith'
into the unknown. It's what has sustained my career. Always stayed in
meteorology, though. Now into the second half of my 6th decade in the business.

John presented the forecast on the BBC Derby Twitter feed this evening.

It's a shame to see him go - but they do seem to pop up elsewhere. I remember when David Braine left, also the best forecaster at the time he left, but I understand he's now part of the furniture at Spotlight South West
