Good idea. Also, why not put AWS on many of the lighthouses that used to report
SYNOPs when they were manned. Why not an AWS on St Kilda. It used to be a SYNOP
station.

Default Met Office trialling use of obs from navigational buoys

It's down to cost and requirement. MMS are expensive and need to be serviced/repaired so accessibility is also a factor. Cheap, off the shelf systems use non-standard sensors and are, thus, unacceptable.

Scilly - virtually unbroken sunshine today, and virtually calm. Basically no sea breeze on scilly, the islands are too small, the largest is 2 by 3 miles. I was the westernmost person in England at around noon today.
