If I hear another weather presenter say 'it's another uncomfortable night for sleeping' I'll scream and scream until I'm sick.
What minimum is he talking about tonight? 16C!!! Do we all stay awake at night on a Med. holiday, when even with a/c the temp. can't be less than 20+C. What about nodding off in the back garden in the sun? Open the window and sleep under one sheet-it never fails for me. Thoughts please. |

We use a 1..5 Tog in the summer but even that is too warm for me. When I had an air-conditioned apartment in the US I started off with the AC set at about 18C. Finding the contrast with the outside 35C+ too severe, I gradually upped it to about 26C over the course of a summer. I slept quite comfortably in the high temp (but humidity was low, of course). Window open makes no difference. Neither does what sheets I have on etc it is just too bloomin warm. I never holiday in the Med unless it is high up in the Alps. If I go to a city in the UK in summer I suffer, especially in the SE. Hotels can be dire with room temperatures 20C first thing I do is turn off all heating and open all windows wide (even in winter). LOL after a few days the rooms then cool off for cleaners to comment. Will -- --- This email has been checked for viruses by AVG. http://www.avg.com |

I've been to Saudi Arabia and the A/C in the hotel rooms is far too noisy to leave on overnight and by morning it might be 27C or so in the room. That's actually very pleasant to wake up to. Take a shower and there is barely any need for a towel! You would never *ever* leave the window open overnight though! -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl Snow videos: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3QvmL4UWBmHFMKWiwYm_gg |

A stream of profanities bellowed at the radio is my preferred style though it appears ineffective. Must be more inventive, and louder. I have no problem sleeping however sweaty it is and I adopt your obvious solution. I don't usually open the big window because of the racket - shagging foxes, jackdaws, someone with a strimmer (I sleep late). I have never regarded warm nights as a problem until the presenters started coming out with their value judgments and silly clichés. Tudor Hughes |

I've just checked the temperature in the bedroom and it is currently 27C with the windows open. I suspect it will rise a little through the night as downstairs is noticeably warmer. It won't stop me from sleeping but it will be a night on the sheets rather than under them. I remember spending the summer in Crete and the heat in the non-a/c apartment was something to behold. A friend said if it is too hot then remove the bed sheet and soak it in the bath until it is dripping wet then put it back on the bed and lie on it. Fantastic! Worked a treat but the only problem is it would dry out and you had to repeat it once or twice through the night. I tried sleeping outside but the mossies got me. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

I count Italy and southern Spain as the Med. Currently 18.4C downstairs and 16C upstairs and cooling off nicely with windows wide open. Outside it is 17.4C. How you guys cope with 20C indoors is beyond me, the house is warm enough already, warmer than it gets all winter if I'm honest. Thank goodness I live on Dartmoor and not in the oven that is SE England or the Otter Valley :-) Roll on winter! Will -- --- This email has been checked for viruses by AVG. http://www.avg.com |
