The current Severe Weather Warning predicts that the thunderstorms will
develop over North Wales late this afternoon and will become widespread over Norther England this evening. The present activity is much further south than that with sferics showing an increasing amount of thundery activity over Devon. There's nothing happening over North Wales yet. -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. https://peakdistrictweather.org Twitter: @TideswellWeathr |

Looks like the forecast was a couple of hours out. There's some kicking off in North Wales in the past hour or so.

I should go out and monitor the sewer level, but perhaps not |

Only 7 mm here in W Fareham but boy was that a spectacular horizon to horizon lightning spectacular, lasting about 45 minutes with mostly c-c flashes every second or two at times. It may only be April but I haven't observed a 'summer' thunderstorm like that for donkeys years - brilliant! -- Dave Fareham (W) |

On the 0030 Radio 4 forecast Matt Taylor said there was thunder "to the south-east of England". I *think* this means there was thunder in SE England but their lingo is often absurdly contorted. It seems "in" is a proscribed word. Too ordinary, too prosaic. Linguistics apart, the statement itself was wrong. Blitzortung showed that the thunder over SE England had died out at least half an hour before he made the statement. There is some rather weak renewed activity over northern France. In the UK the main activity now (0105 UT) is over Hants/Wilts. In a different context Matt Taylor mention Bude, which he said was in Devon. Maybe they've moved the border - or maybe the town.
