An unusual inversion of north and south, with all the lowest maxima in
southern England and East Anglia, and all the highest in NW England and
SW Scotland - presumably largely because those regions were the least
dull and wet.

Yes, fairly sunny by the look of the sat imagery - and the warmth accentuated by shelter due to the wind direction too - Bridgefoot is west of the Lake District Fells, Myerscough is north of Preston, Auchincruive just inland from Ayr / Prestwick.

I'm currently at Coniston in the Lake District and can confirm that
Sunday was a gorgeous warm day with lots of sunshine. The highest I
noticed on the campervan thermometer was 17.5C. When I have had the
opportunity to check it, it seems to be fairly accurate. Another super
warm day today with lots of sunshine. Raining this evening, though.
