![]() As reported on the national news tonight, in Norway: Tafjord at 62 deg. north set a new record for November for any location in Norway. The new record is 21.8 C! Sunndalsøra, some 70 km northeast of Tafjord came closest with 21.6 C, generally many locations had very high temperatures in this ara. My location, closer to the coast had 19.0 C. The new record is a whole 3.3 C higher than the last one for November, at 18.5 C - from November 1984. Norway's weather can be very surprising indeed! I first visited Voss back in May 1999 (over National Day) and experienced what I thought were some unseasonably warm temperatures. Indeed, I ended up having to buy some suncream! The raincoat that I'd taken went unused the whole week. The second time was a little different - during a short stop in Narvik in April 2001 (mainly to look at the wartime museum there) I ended up wading around in getting on for 6" of slushy snow. (Well, 6" when I got there and about 3" when I left!) Last time (May/June 2002) was a little bit more seasonable and it rained a fair bit too! Absolutely awesome country and I might be visiting again soon now that Ryan Air fly to Haugesund on the west coast. Jonathan Canterbury |
