Well, Kent saw absolutely NO snow.

Mother Nature has a lot to answer to when I catch up with her...!

Better luck next time ...

Cheers all,

Rob.

Let me tell you what really is EXTEREMELY disapointing. That a major gas
company should cut off the supplies to an EXTEREMELY aged couple and
leave them to fend for themselves with no way of informing others of
their EXTEREMELY despicable act.

What really hurts is that the calibre of people employed by these firms
is so EXTEREMELY low that no-one among them is capable of taking a risk
in the hope of behaving like citizens.

The couple had no heating apparently for weeks before they died. The
worst thing is that those EXTEREMELY irresponsible will get away with
platitudes such as "We learned something." and "We have had an internal
enquiry."

No real enquiry is needed they had already learned how to pass the
buck EXTEREMELY well. What more can people like these learn?

See below... this is going to stir some manure !!!!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/3342059.stm

Couple with no gas found dead

Nearly £1,400 cash was found at the couple's home
A coroner is to call for a change in the law after an elderly couple were
found dead in their home weeks after their gas supply was cut off, due to the
non-payment of a £140 bill.
George Bates, 89, and his 86-year old wife Gertrude were found in a decomposed
state in October in the south London house they had shared for 64 years.

British Gas said the Data Protection Act prohibited them from passing
information on the situation to social services.

rest of an unbelievable tale snipped

They were cut off on the 1st of August, and found dead on the 18th of
October,
"severely decomposed". That doesn't happen overnight, so dead by the end of
September,
maybe. Care to point out the "weeks" in the August and September this year
that
they would have needed the heating on for?

You are quite right. And the sort of person to do EXTEREMLY well in a
large faceless corporation.

Meanwhile the news is that more people are to die in Britain this winter
due to the cold than are likely to in Russia or Finland.

I agree there Michael. The labour party are guilty of allowing this
commercial madness to continue. By that I mean a world now so complex and
convoluted and all packaged under the title off "increased customer choice".

Most people 70 plus are totally bamboozled by queuing menu systems,
Passwords , Companies like British gas selling electricity, tariff changes
and combinations of various products. I feel the old term "Flatter to
deceive" is being employed under the title of "customers making informed
choices".
In fact I'd go as far t to say that there is worse to come for the elderly.
They are increasingly becoming a target group, unless they're from an ethnic
background or present learning difficulties, they are treated and will be
increasingly treated like scum.
They will be seen as a parasitic group living off those that are at work. Of
course there are many groups living off those at work, but the working glass
pensioners are not a special needs group and therefore pratts in the Labour
party, and people like Livingstone will continue to put that particular group
at the bottom of the needs pile. Why ?, because the left middle classes in
this country are not interested in them they only shout and lobby for others
to help salve their consciences.
The ones that have worked all their lifes will be asked to to work an extra
5 years to pay for those that have never worked at all or contributed
anything.
Already in London the elderly bus pass has been held up for discussion
around it's withdrawal.

Thank god the weather has been mild.

Lawrence,

This shows exactly what a sad society we live in these days, when the
country treats the elderly with such distain. This I believe is
because most elderly people are highly honest souls, still remembering
the austere times before, during and after the second world war when
all had to pull together to make sure each and everyone is OK. Now
with the collapse of family values, these souls who have contributed
so much are being left out in the cold (sorry about the pun)and with
their increasing numbers they 'are' a drain on financial resources,
but most have put in far more than they will ever take out.

The problems these days are exacerbated by younger members of society,
usually my age, who know how to 'play' the system, and thus are able
take out without putting anything back in. A few of my female friends
have unashamedly got themselves in the 'family way' in order to gain a
flat, and all have been successful. The benefit system will make sure
that these friends of mine will be provided for until thier children
are at least 16, but all complain that their state benefit is never
enough.

Unfortunately, to compound matters further, the honest members of
today's society cannot speak out about these anomalies due to
political correctness.

I too am glad that it is mild, and I think it does not take too much
time or effort to make sure an elderly relative or neighbour is warm
enough and to offer them some company.

I think he is pointing out that actually cutting the heating was nothing to
do with the cause of death. As he says if they were cut off on 1st August
and found dead on the 18th of October but had obviously died some
considerable time before, it is difficult to imagine these as cold related
deaths.

Certainly it is an aspect of the matter that has not been discussed at all
on the media
