Is it possible to find out my altitude through a postcode search on the internet? Google back in this group a week or three... OS maps seem to have disappeared from places like multimap and streetmap but are on the OS site. http://www.heavens-above.com has such a feature. Does it? I can't find it only Lat/Long co-ord entry or select a town from the database. Which may not be particulary good for most towns in this country due to hills. -- Cheers Dave. pam is missing e-mail |

Is it possible to find out my altitude through a postcode search on the internet? if so could someone give me a site address. -- Thanks Regards M C Yates http://www.myfootballforum.com This is what I wrote a week or so ago in response to a similar request 'There are sites online which suggest they can provide your altitude based on settlement name, lat and long. In my experience not very accurate unless you live in an area such as the Fens. Far better is to go to the Ordnance Survey site http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/ In the 'Get-a-Map' window put the name of your location (you may then have to select from a range if you happen to live in Newport for example). Your map will appear but you should then press the large + sign to get the 1:25000 scale with the 5metre contour interval. Beware that some map sites simply enlarge the 1:50000 OS map which only has a 10metre interval. After that you just have to find where you live!' -- George in Epping, West Essex (107m asl) www.eppingweather.co.uk www.winter1947.co.uk |

![]() Hi U can estimate your altitude by going to multimap and selecting the 25,000 scale map for your postcode. You can see the contour lines and spot heights in metres above sea level. If your lucky you may have a convenient spot height nearby or if not youll have to find out what level the contour line nearest your location is by movings around following the line till you reach one stating the level. They are at 50m intervals with lines every 10 metres. Alternatively use Streetmap , u need the view mid level maps button to get a map with contours on. Mike. "Col" wrote in message ... And what precisely is wrong with somebody asking about how
to do something online that could previously only be done by going out to a shop and buying something? Nothing. I never said or even implied that there was. You can get maps, especially local ones, in libraries. That's how I did it. Piece of ****, even for a ten-year-old (possibly 9, could've been). Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |
