Whilst others look ahead to the end of next week, today is shaping up as one
of the coldest if not the coldest day of the winter in the South. True continental air which is around freezing is coming across on an Easterly at about 20 mph with little modification. Some temperatures and dew points at around 11.00am on XTC a- Culdrose 2/-4 Saint Mawgan 2/-3 Plymouth 2/-3 Exeter 3/-2 Bristol 0/-3 Benson 1/-1 Southend 2/-2 Jersey 2/-4 With some precipitation lurking off the coast of Cornwall .....?? Yes, coldest day of the winter here in Penzance, and it certainly feels it.
The first real, easterly of the winter. (It's never very cold with a northerly here). The wind is just off the sea, so the temperature is now hovering near 5 degrees, probably similar on Scilly. But as you say, it's 2 or 3 degrees colder just inland, or where the winds off-shore, like St. Mawgan (which is also well above SL). snow flurries were on and off all day here in Plympton (on outskirts of
Plymouth) on Saturday. Although it was so light you could only see a couple of flakes coming down at any one time. Not even enough to wet the ground never mind leave any snow on the ground.
