My son has just phoned from the Dolomites where he has been skiing. They
have had huge snowfalls and it is brown (and apparently doesn't taste very pleasant either!). The locals say it contains dust from the Sahara which sounds very plausible. Certainly (visual) cloud animations, eg via: http://www.wetter.com/home/content/D...p_xl.php?date= show how the cloud has indeed moved up from N.Africa over the past few days and mixed with the colder Northern European air. Note the snow cover over Poland. Jack |

This would also give evidence to mild air being entrained from N. Africa. Got some fantastic photos which I hope to post, including a weather station setup in Val d'Isere at 1850m. Joe |

Jack,
Interesting report from you. The following images show the dust/sand plume originating for Algeria, both yesterday and today. I would say the plume looks unusually dense. http://www.btinternet.com/~wokingham...1346-d-med.JPG http://www.btinternet.com/~wokingham...1356-e-sah.JPG -- Bernard Burton Wokingham, Berkshire, UK.
