Hi

The first half of this post was written at 6:30pm, but has not made it to
the newsgroup for some reason.

Rain started falling at 11:45 this morning and hasn't really stopped since.
Looking at the BBC radar, the heaviest bit has only just arrived. 3.9mm
recorded in the last hour.
All very welcome though, as June's total stood at just 5.1mm before today
and the grass was looking rather brown.
Top temperature today is just 15.5C making it the coldest max temperature of
the month so far.
Lovely.
Wife asked me to get her winter coat out again...

Stephen Moseley
PS. In the 5 mins since I started writing this, total has moved on to 12.9mm

Now 8:30pm and the rainfall has reached 24.3, falling in excess of 6mm/hr
(averaged over 15 mins). Wife was very pleased to have thicker coat!
Still falling hard.

Stephen

Now raining REALLY hard. Rather windy too, my sheltered wind vane is reading
15kts from the East, so it's probably about double that. Will will know
better up on Haytor (about 5 miles away!)
4.5 mm in the last 10 minutes. Now that's impressive! (27mm/hr)
5 mins later it's 7.5mm in 15 mins (30mm/hr)
It's gone really dark too. Just 180 lux (30,000 lux is reckoned to be bright
sunshine)

Thanks for letting me know!
I couldn't see it on Google either, so I had assumed it was lost...

Google is very slow. It will be several hours before you see it there.

He he he these lowlanders eh ? :-)

Rain up here on Haytor still bucketing down and the total at 2120 local now
stands at 45.5 mm of which 30.7 mm has fallen since 1800 !!!

At least the fog has now lifted, visibility is a massive 2km and the wind has
also dropped in the last half hour.

Nice to hear from you Stephen.

Will.

visibility has shot up to 10km. Rain eased to light.

Rain stopped falling shortly before 10pm after 44.1mm of rain had fallen in
10 hours.
33.0mm fell in 3.5 hours between 6pm and 9:30pm.
The most intense rainfall was between 8:30pm and 9pm when 13.5mm fell in
just 30 mins.

We've had another 4mm from showers in the early hours of today.

As far as the wind goes, my sheltered hillside has only two wind directions.
The wind veered from East to West at 9:30pm. and has now picked back up to
16 knots (like I said, it's a bit sheltered). Judging by the trees (rather
than going outside) it looks like a Force 5.
