July mean temp difference from average ( to nearest 0.5 degC): Saskatchewan: Regina -7degC, Saskatoon -7 degC, Kindersley -3.5 degC Manitoba: Brandon -5 degC, Winnipeg -4 degC, Churchill -4 degC Alberta: Calgary -1.5 degC, Edmonton -1.5 degC, Banff +2.5 degC Br Columbia: Kamloops +5 degC, Prince George +3.5 degC, Vancouver +2 degC, Victoria +2 degC, Prince Rupert +2.5 degC. Ontario: Thunder Bay +0.5degC, Toronto +0.5 degC, Ottawa +1.5 degC Quebec: Montreal +0.5 degC, Quebec +2.5 degC, Gaspé +3 degC I'll happily do the same with the August figures when I have them, but I'm sure they'll show a similar variety. For July, at any rate, it was certainly very cold in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Nowhere else, though. Philip Eden ..... and indeed, the west coast of BC along with Washington and Oregon had unusually warm weather in the middle two weeks of the month, Portland Oregon reaching 103C on about the 23rd. In that period at least (and into early August, judging by weather reports I saw) the region seemed to be having a UK 2003 style summer. On the other hand, from forecasts I do remember regions such as Ontario and Quebec, along with the NE USA, having very changeable weather with frequent thundery cold fronts alternating with transient (2-3 day) highs, but then again temps were fairly high and in any case that sort of weather that may be normal for that part of the world? Unusually warm would seem to be an understatement! Presumably 103F was intended. -- John Hall "I am not young enough to know everything." Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) |

Blair. Those temps you quote, not satellite right. Have you a link? Surface temperatures indeed: http://www.giss.nasa.gov/data/update/gistemp/GLB.Ts.txt Also looked up the Calgary normals on the MSC site (www.weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca) - Calgary has a mean of 0.4 days per month in August with a maximum under 10 (or, looking at it another way, one every 2.5 years on average).
