As a retired pilot, I found this article about the penetration of the
eye of a hurricane absoolutely fascinating. http://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/hugo1.asp It makes me realise just how dull my career was. I know that had I had the chance to do hurricane research, I would not have hesitated. Mad I know, but I would have loved it. Jack |

I've always been amazed that they can do this safely. Going from the eyewall to the eye must surely change the crosswind from 180mph to not much in a very short space of time, presumably this must have weird windshear effects? - Michael |
