Just read this story:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3732690.stm Do we really want twilight to end at around 11:30 in June? I like it dark when I go to bed! I can see the advantage for the Winter months however. Steve |

Ugh, I suppose we're getting close to the time of year when these stories surface again. My usual answer is "if you want to live an hour ahead of yourself there's nothing stopping you, or alternatively move to France"! However, this year as an experiment I've just said "nuts" to the whole sorry mess of BST and stuck with GMT throughout (check the headers of this post, for example). It's worked far better than I dared hope, although I do have to remember to tack an extra hour onto times when talking to people (and it's fun in other ways too, as I'm sure you can imagine :P). As for people wanting to be 2 hours ahead of the sun, good luck to them - the whole daylight savings thing of fooling your body into thinking it's an hour later than it really is has always seemed daft to me! |

I can see the advantage for the Winter months however. When BST was used all year round back in the 70s there were many people who thought the government had reduced the number of daylight hours. Lock us in GMT and be done with it?
This Topic comes up every year at around this time. Oh and who is Bill? ;-) |

I can never understand this argument...
Split times between England and Scotland is just asking for unnecessary confusion within media and transportation industries. If the Scots want brighter mornings, then the simple answer is to the Scotch to get up one hour later! The solution is simple.... Just get all th Scottish businesses and schools to change their opening times from 9am to 10am Everyone wins. Brendan |
