Latest from TWO....

"With only 19 days until Christmas many people are now asking us whether it
will snow this year. The simple answer is that at the moment things are
looking promising. Trying to forecast a specific day at this range is
extremely difficult, but we are confident of a spell of cold weather with
snow developing during the second half of December. This could coincide with
Christmas and bring a pleasant surprise for people in parts of the UK. Read
our latest Christmas forecast to find out in more detail the weather we are
expecting. If you would like more information about this forecast, or more
detailed information about it, contact us here. Brian Gaze,
TheWeatherOutlook's senior forecaster said, "Although we expect the coldest
weather of the winter during January and February, we do think there will be
at least one significant cold spell during the second half of December.
There is a reasonable chance of this coinciding with Christmas."

My comment:

What a load of tosh. OK it might be right, it might be wrong, but that is not
the point.
Anyone could write that quite honestly. You do not need any meteorological
qualifications or scientific knowledge to come up with a statement like that.
What is the point, really ??? There is always a reasonable chance of a cold
spell "coinciding with Christmas" it is called CLIMATOLOGY for goodness sake.

No cheers,

Will.

Go along with that Will, I got slagged off for not issuing a winter
forecast. My answer published late Feb 2004 is what is the point!
Of course there will be cold spells - of course we will have media hype
telling us just how good Metcheck were is if we get a fall in January.
How many times have we been through this?
These forecasts are so predictable. Over 40 years!
'Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn.'
But they do.

Cheers

If you throw enough darts at the board you will sooner or later get a bulls
eye. If you think this is excruciating wait until what the person who
eventually flukes it has to say!

From their FAQ...
--------
How accurate are the forecasts?
Our view is all forecasts should be validated independently over an
extended period of time. Currently we make no definite claims for the
accuracy of our long range forecasts, but in our opinion they are as
accurate, if not more accurate than any others we have seen.
--------

Now why does that raise a smile...?
