Nothin' to be ashamed of Ed. When I'm good and sleepy sittin' behind a
keyboard I've been known to send flower pics to a car group and vice-versa.
)

And some of the recipients thought it was pretty cool.

Besides, when I'm thinking about Chaparrals and 917's I'm not too rational
anyway.

Ever seen a street-legal 917?

Howdja like to run down to the neighborhood store and pick up a quart of
milk with this thing?

I got to see Chaparrals at Seca, but wished I took the chance to see
them at Riverside........ I have Kits for all the Chaparrals except the 1,
2G and 2K

Nope, but I did see a Street Legal Porsche 908 in Sacramento.

Yea, Right. Quart of Milk and 4 Gallons of Gas! ;-). I've got a Kit of
the same Livery as the Markings on that 917K.

I'll be damned. Well now you've got a shot of the real thing to go along
with it.

I grew up here too --- and I *was* able to see Jim and Hap Sharp race
several generations of Chaparrals at Riverside. The vacuum cleaner car
(before it was outlawed) was an awesome piece of technology for the times.
I used to actually laugh at some of the stuff Jim Hall did. I'd sure hate
to have been a competitor.

If an errant post brought out this photo it's ok by me! Always was my
favourite car altho I never saw one in person. Now I have to get out my
copy of "LeMans" with Steve McQueen to watch again-saw it in the theatre
long ago too. Was there ever a better looking car than a 917 in Gulf
colours? I had a lot of slot cars painted that way.

So did I --- multiple times! 2nd time I took my son who was a little guy, 6
or 7 at the time. He turned 44 ther other day. Time flies.

I can assure you I have NO shortage of Pictures of the Real Cars ;-)

Prior to moving to N.Cal in '67 the Racing I saw live was Oval (my
neighbor Raced at Saugus Raceway, and Drag Racing at the San Fernando Drag
Strip where we'd ride our Bicycles down and watch for free from the Wash
North of the Track.
Starting in '68 I went to Laguna Seca to watch Races. Saw the Chaparral
2G, 2H Race, although the 2H was an embarrassment, and got to watch the 2J
go around the track a couple of times but not race.

Yes the CanAm 917 was a brute of a car and I did see this one race and have
lots of pictures of it and of Roger and Mark in the garages at Mosport but
it's really a totally different kettle of fish. But I've always liked the
Gulf colours and I much prefer cars with roofs such as the LeMans Jaguars,
Bentleys, Toyotas , Peugeots and the 917 K and L. And of course this years
Lola Aston-Martin-in Gulf colours no less. OTOH, IMHO, "Daytona
prototypes" are ugly as sin.
You can certainly tell a car's age by its ground clearance.

I just located this shot. Lest anyone think that other picture was just a
show car with a license plate but it probably got trailered over to the
show --- here's the same car arriving at another show a few weeks ago. Yeah
the guy really does drive it on the street. I wonder if I'd be mature
enough to handle that. Probably not. The temptation would be too great.
