Default Lit from above

This picture was taken to the east after sunset. There seems to be a
lightsource above the visible clouds in the picture. I think higher clouds
are lit by the sun and the lower clouds are lit by these higher sunlit
clouds (or whatever..;-))
My car on the right gives a little impression of the perspective.

Thats almost the same effect that we saw when we watched the nuclear bomb
test in space in 1962 seen from Hawaii, Test shot Starfish Prime
only it was alrady dark, then daylight, very similiar to your photo,
then the sky went blood red..for for several minutes, then faded out
with aurora. We went up to a clear area on the mountian side over Honolulu
turned out we really didn't need to do that, cause you could see it from
anywhere..

Maybe a left over source from the vulcanic ash? ;-)
Cool shot, is indeed an eyecatcher when you see it.
