Default Blackout and weather?

I read (or heard) several times that the weather (e.g lightning) was not the
cause of the blackout. In my view it was, because the weather led to the high
demand that caused an overload of some sort. Of course, it may be just a
coincidence that the blackout happend on the hottest day of the summer....
