This is the Coriolis Effect. The net result of this effect, combined with friction between the atmosphere and the Earth's surface, is the swirling spiral you see on satellite pictures of low pressure systems, ================================== Bob, There is no friction between the Earth and the atmosphere, if there was we would have petrel motion, If there is friction we must find where energy lost through friction comes from, and how it is replaced , Considering the Sun is the only, source of energy, we can find that affects the Earth. other than gravity, Any other source of energy must be considered non existent. ================================= be they tropical storms close to the equator, or raging polar storms. High pressure systems show a spiral if you look at the wind flow, though those flows are seldom so nicely depicted by cloud bands as they are in low ================================== Again Bob all these storms Get their energy from the Sun. If there was a Coriolis force all storms in the north would spin counter clockwise and all in the south clockwise. Storms in the far north, spin clockwise, because their energy source, is from cooling rather from heating as in the tropics, If there was a Coriolis affect it would be the same, far to the north, or near the Equator. The west to east weather patterns, in the far north result from cooling and, the Sun forcing Equatorial weather to the west, North or South All Equatorial weather, moves East to west with the Sun, this should be proof Coriolis force does not exist leonard |

Leonard said: "It is the great distance between the wet side and the dry
side, that prolongs the process," What process would that be? ================================ I explained the process in several posts, however here is a little more about the process, over several days, that has not been posted. When the sun rises in the East, the East and south side of a trpoical wave is nearest the sun all day, they draw moisture from the sea, making air dense and saturated with moisture. We should all agree dense air does not reflect heat into the stratosphere, like dry air, When the Sun sets, the dry air, on the west side, of the tropical wave cools faster than the south and East side, creating a low pressure, The low tries to draw air from both both the south and north side of the wave. Because the south and East side of the wave is much larger, the high remains, for the second day. to increase the process. The dry west side draws dry air from the north, as air in the north dumps moisture,as rain fall. Rain fall creates a low on the north side, drawing warm dense air from the east. After several days of this process, counter clock wise rotation begins and a tropical storm is born. leonard |

After she was finally convinced to see a shrink, the Doctor showed her some ink blotches,'' What does this remind you of,'' the Doctor asked, That is a picture of a nude man, she replied. And this one what does it remind you of. the Doctor asked, that is a nude man and woman in bed together. The doctor scratched his head, and said you really have a problem don't you? My friend replied,'' Yea and you showing those nasty pictures isn't helping me either. |

Hurricane can we stop them?
I don't know the science of hurricanes, but your idea makes sense to me. Have you worked this out more on a website or something? I'd be interested to read more about it. Robin ----- Robin, you are among a very flew people that appear to have an open mind. The present thinking on hurricane rotation, is from the 19th centaury. Cooked up by a Frenchman. Coriolis it may as well have been developed in the dark ages because none of our present scientific instruments existed. IF you would like to read more , go to the discussion group ''weather'' here you will find much of what I have written in the first 3 groups. If you have more questions, email me at home. leonard |
