(AP) -- Warmer-than-normal temperatures continued Monday in the East, as a
cold front brought showers and occasional snow to the upper Midwest and
Northwest.

Some clouds spread across the Northeast, but skies stayed mostly clear in
the Carolinas and the Southeast.

Thunderstorms passed through parts of the Appalachians and Deep South. More
than a half-inch of rain was reported in Montgomery, Ala.

Temperatures rose into the 50s in New England and the eastern Great Lakes,
and into the 70s in the Southeast.

Snow dusted the upper Midwest, with heavier amounts in Michigan. Up to 4
inches blanketed Michigan's upper peninsula.

Clear skies prevailed across much of the Plains, while a cold front pushed
into the Pacific Northwest, bringing scattered rain to western Washington
and Oregon.

Light snow fell in parts of Washington, Idaho and Montana. Much of the rest
of the West stayed dry.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Monday ranged from 78 degrees in Key
West, Fla., to minus-19 in Hettinger, N.D.
