Default Tornadoes

Hello!

I was just wondering if anyone here has experienced a tornado in real life?
How is it to live in the tornadoalley? I think that I would have been very
stressed through the spring-months. :-) In Norway the weather is very
boring.

Kaare Vigesdal, Norway. :-)

No but I've seen one on tv. Actually, I have seen numerous funnel clouds
and have probably lived through 100 tornado warnings but they're always
false alarms. I used to do my own tornado chasing but I'm nowhere near as
brave (or stupid) as I once was.

Default Tornadoes

Kaare ..... I live in upstate New York where we get tornadoes every few
years. I was home once about 10 years ago when I looked out my windows and
noticed that the wind had picked up and tree branches were shaking, clouds
were moving fast, and there was lightening in 6 different places but all at
once. I came back into my living room and got my girlfriend to go down into
my basement. On our way down, I stopped at the window again and saw that
all the tree branches that had been moving before, were now all pinned
downward by severe downdrafts. We ran into the basement as we heard noise
from the tornado that sounded like (you guessed it) a freight train coming.
No more than 30 seconds later, it was gone.

I came out and found 5-10 downed trees no more than 10 feet away from my
house. I got in my car to survey other damage and found one of my neighbors
front yards had been devastated. All of his trees were down and his utility
shed looked like a bomb had hit it. Later I heard on the radio that a
trailer approx 5 miles from my house had been picked up by the tornado and
thrown some 150 feet from it's location. Two people were inside but they
did not get hurt badly.

So I was lucky that the tornado didn't damage my house. But it came awfully
close. I'll never forget the sound of the freight train. It was extremely
frightening.

I personally have not been. But, my father has. He told me that he thought
the end of the world was here, and it was judgment day!
