Default East and Central dry, storms in the West

CNN:
East and Central dry, storms in the West

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WEATHER/02/1....ap/index.html

(AP) -- High pressure will keep much of the East and the nation's middle
section dry Wednesday, while storms dump rain and snow on much of the West.

Light snow will fall in the Middle Atlantic and Great Lakes Region.

Partly cloudy skies and dry conditions will dominate the Ohio and Tennessee
valleys and Florida, while mostly cloudy skies prevail in the Southeast and
Northeast.

Partly cloudy skies and calm conditions are forecast for the majority of the
central states, except for scattered snow in northern Minnesota, northern
Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Rain will soak northern California, Oregon and Washington, northern Idaho
and western Montana. Heavy snow will fall in higher elevations of central
and eastern Washington, Oregon and northern California.

Partly cloudy skies and dry conditions will be found in southern California,
the Desert Southwest and the Southern Rockies.

Highs Wednesday were forecast to be in the 30s in the Northeast, Middle
Atlantic, Great Lakes Region, Ohio Valley and Upper Midwest; 40s in the
Carolinas, Northern Plains and Pacific Northwest; 50s in the Tennessee
Valley, Deep South, Southeast, Northern Rockies and Great Basin; 60s in
southern Florida, Central Plains, northern Texas and Southern Rockies; 60s
and 70s in California; 70s in southern Texas; 70s and 80s in the Desert
Southwest.

Temperatures Tuesday in the lower 48 states ranged from a low of minus-29
degrees in Presque Isle, Maine, to a high of 88 degrees in Carlsbad, New
Mexico.
