This is the second tornado of the weekend in Washington. According to
KOMO, the national weather service was quoted as saying "there is no obvious reason" for the massive increase in tornadoes in the state in 2004. in the last 6 weeks, the state has seen nearly a dozen tornadoes. The norm is only one or two per year. Most of the tornadoes this year have been F0's. Quotes from the KOMO article as well as a video are available below. http://www.komotv.com/stories/31594.htm "SEATTLE - The recent rash of tornadoes and funnel clouds in our state continued through this weekend. The latest tornado, according to the National Weather Service, hit just after 3 o'clock on Sunday. It first touched down in Oregon, then skipped across the Columbia River and jumped back on land in Cowlitz County knocking down a tree before falling apart. The National Weather Service also confirms a funnel cloud near Stanwood on Saturday did touch down...officially making it a tornado. " Another article quotes the year's total as "at least 5" and shows a webcam picture of the approaching storm. Like many newspaper / TV sites, it is no longer public. http://www.kgw.com/news-local/storie...235dd0cd6.html -- ================================================== ============ 8000 Weather Enthusiasts Can't Be Wrong! www.weathermatrix.net |
