11 killed as heavy rains lash eastern region
PTI Thursday, October 7, 2004 Guwahati, Oct. 7 (PTI) - Heavy rains and landslides swept several states of eastern India leaving 11 people, including an eight-year-old girl, dead in Assam and West Bengal and disrupting normal life in the entire region. Nine died in West Bengal, two in Assam where four others were missing in mudslides, and one was missing in Jharkhand, according to latest reports. Heavy rains, triggered by a depression, left nearly 10 lakh people marooned and paralysed normal life in Kolkata.
