Just wondering what area/city/state the most thunderstorms would be found (other than Florida :-) I'm a huge thunderstorm fan and currently live in the desert. I've decided life is too short to sit here missing all the thunderstorms in life. Ideally I'd like four mild seasons, terrain flat to rolling hills, altitude 5,000 ft or less, within an hour or so of a major city with decent medical facilities. We're partial to the Arizona/New Mexico/Colorado/Nevada/Texas area, but open to other suggestions, of course. Is that asking too much? LOL Probably, but a girl can ask, can't she???? All you 'weather' folks out there, have any ideas for us??? Thanks for any suggestions. jumpingmouse Try Denver or Rapid City South Dakota, both are scenic areas with lots of thunder, not much rain though. Both places average less than 20 inches of precip per year so you'll get the thunder and lightning but not a lot of rain. If it's stormy, nasty and rainy weather you're looking for, try the lower midwest or Ohio Valley. St Louis, Louisville, Nashville or even southern Illinois. Thunderstorms are great until you get one that knocks out your power for 5 days and takes down trees in your yard. We had one come through here last year with 95 MPH winds and 5 inches of rain in 45 minutes, what a disaster. Well, I take that back, a disaster is what occured in southeast Asia last month, a mess is a more appropriate word. Still, I think you'll change your mind about living in a thunder-rich environment once you've had your power knocked out 6 or 7 times over the coarse of 2 months. We had 70 inches of rain here last year, 25 inches above normal, we had dozens of severe thunderstorms and tornados touch down close to home. Machete, North Central Kentucky............... |
