Default Rita now third largest ever ?

I just read where hurricane Rita is the 3rd largest hurricane ever
(low pressure reading) at 26.55 inches in the Atlantic basin.

I didnt realize they considered the gulf of Mexico the Atlantic
basin.

Also what where the other 2 low pressure readings, I think Gilbert
was the lowest, what was number 2.

Thanks
Craig

26.52 now. 898 mb.

It's considered an Atlantic Storm because it originated in the Atlantic
(as opposed to the Pacific).

Gilbert and the Labor Day 1935 storm were lower at 888 and 892 mb
respectively.

Rita may yet beat that but will weaken slightly before it hits Texas as
the waters in the Western Gulf are not quite as warm there.
