![]() Martin Rowley wrote: "Ken Cook" wrote in message oups.com... Hi, All, Sudden gust around to around 40mph 1415Z yesterday. It lasted 15 seconds only. 2 okta Sc with small vertical development and a steady 340 degrees before, during and after as the graphs show. It was so brief that it hardly affected the mean speed (blue line). Any views would be appreciated. ... have experienced similar on one occasion many years ago at Finningley (village) in a similar situation. Unstable airflow but limited cloud development (air mass too dry) - strong surface heating, generally moderate wind from a roughly northerly point: setting up the tables for a fete in the early afternoon and a dust devil developed over the airfield and drifted across the village, turning over several tables and ripping many covers etc., to pieces. Once the DD had gone, the wind dropped back to a more normal state, and it was as if nothing had happened - apart from the devastation around! I would go for a dust devil (which might not be betrayed by dust of course if it formed over a surface that had little or no loose debris.) Any record of frost before them? I am trying to compile a link with the occurrence of frost or/and msty weather to Hurricanes in the N Atlantic. Any other oddities add more fuel to the fire. I wonder what the co-incidence of frosts might be with the occurrence of tornadoes. |
