There is a lot of activity in the Indian Ocean and it seemed to take
off immediately this spell came into effect. So far there hasn't been a period when there wasn't a super cyclone in progress: http://satellite.ehabich.info/hurricane-watch.htm The default weather for the USA seems to be a large block of high pressure stretching down the central states of the continent and a series of smaller high pressure parcels running west to east past the south of it. Also a set of Low pressure areas is in play either side of the large High. http://weather.unisys.com/images/sat_sfc_map_loop.html All of which has produced some local quakes in California and Mexico http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/...quakes_big.php A somewhat deeper discussion of it on he http://groups.google.com/group/sci.g...837518f11b5df1 In Britain the weather is rather pleasant this time of the year though I have no dobt if it was like this in summer I'd be in a bad way with the heat. Fortunately the humidity isn't a problem as the water vapour remains aloft as ice. So I shall book this time of phase as one that produces SF 2s and 3s without necessarily changing the spell. Which is unusual and requires watching for a summer comparison. |

Here comes the fog.
All over Britain posters have been experiencing fog or mists and sending in pictures. Well the TV reception has started to break down here and that's when I first get a clue. Oddly enough, Channel Five at one time the worst reception going on UK terrestrial TV, has the best almost perfect picture. Pity that, as it is full of crap and the directors are the dregs of the earth. |

And to add insult to injury the tropical stuff is underpowered with 2 more days of this particular spell to go. It will be interesting to get the chance to observe events without an F 2 or 3 cyclone. But I think they will resurge or be replaced with large mag quakes. A run of mid sixes perhaps. 6.4 2008/02/12 12:50:20 OAXACA, MEXICO. Is that anywhere near the San Andreas swarm: http://groups.google.com/group/sci.g...b267abfdddb6f# |

Is that anywhere near the San Andreas swarm: http://groups.google.com/group/sci.g...se_frm/thread/... It's pretty clear that with the tropical cyclones settled down and a pretty even NEIC, that the model for this time of phase on: http://weather.unisys.com/images/sat_sfc_map_loop.html ....is a stable high system over most of the USA with unstable Lows in the east and a fringe of Low pressure in the west. It is another rally nice day over here in lil ol England. I must say I like this weather. Storm warnings in Florida though: http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/wwa/ When they clear away the highs might motor through but of course the next spell is almost on the doorstep: 14th Feb 03:34 http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclips...se2001gmt.html It's almost identical is it not? |

As of 0600 13th Feb:
http://squall.sfsu.edu/gif/sathts_snd_00.gif This shows a High pressure package elongated from off Florida to a point on land at Newfoundland. This connection is the reason why the earthquakes spawned in the period of this thing's existence are not epicentred in the Aleutians. Or not as the case may be. |

Well that's it for the spell, long live the spell. With an high in the region of 1040 mb over Britain and an overcast set in, it's no wonder the weather turned cold. Some say it will improve. No majr storms and a largish quake in Greece so it might just be the changeover of the spell. |

It would have been nice to report that the 110 knot storm Hondo, had been 120 degrees or whatever harmonic distance from yours truly earlier today. We had a glorious day. High ice but sunny. Cold, as the infra red had been absorbed by the high cloud but bright for the reflected visible spectrum. There was an unusually deep Low off the south of Greenland according to the Met Office. One chart showing it as 950 mb. Not as low as some tropical stuff but quite deep for the North Atlantic. That was 120 degrees from Hondo. Hondo just happens to be the only thing on the radar over at: http://www.hurricanezone.net/ at the moment. Wouldn't that beat all? Closing the circle. The low is back in the North Atlantic again. I wonder if Google or Space Data Corp would be interested in any of this. Some help compiling a database would be inspiring. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02...ogle_balloons/ Not that I can see it happening in my lifetime. Would be a kicker though. |

Rubbish. the main feature of February was the long anticyclonic period which lasted from the 6th-23rd in southern districts and from the 10th-20th in northern Britain. However, it only ranked 58th most anticylonic in 136 years of records, but the mean monthly pressure at 50N00W was 29th highest. It was also the 24th most southwesterly February out of 136. Mean pressure charts are available at: Charts: http://www.climate-uk.com/monpre/0802.htm The Monthly Review will shortly be uploaded to: http://www.climate-uk.com/monthly/0802.htm Graphs: http://www.climate-uk.com/graphs/0802.htm and http://www.climate-uk.com/graphs/200802.htm http://groups.google.com/group/uk.sc...6d9fe48269dd56 |

I know your blasphemy, those who say they themselves know a thing or two, and yet they know not but are a bunch of *******. Certainly unless you wake up, I shall **** all over you and you will not know at all at what day it is nor when to get out of the rain. Nevertheless, there are a few here that did not defile themselves and they might learn a thing or two if they pull their fingers out. Let the one who has an ear hear what the Weatherlawyer says to the lusers that are worthy. After these my previous posts, I saw and look; a sign opened in heaven like a siren going off in my ears, calling to me, saying: What do you think of this? I shall show you the things that must take place. And look; a stone was in its position in heaven and three numbers stamped on it. And the numbers that were stamped on it we 03:44; 03:34 and 03:31. And I thought: Funny, that's funny I thought, know what I mean? Funny? La Niña's fingerprint is all over plants in eastern Australia and southern Africa in this pair of vegetation images from the SPOT Vegetation satellite. In these dry grasslands, plants live and die by the rain. Other places, like forests, store up water in the soil, so a few exceptionally dry or wet months don't have such a large impact. But in the ecosystems common in Australia and southern Africa, you can almost measure the rain by the health of the vegetation, and vice versa. In February 2008, La Niña brought heavy rain to eastern Australia and southern Africa, and the vegetation responded in kind. Areas of bright green point to strong plant growth in both regions. Though an abundance of growing things may seem good, the excess rainfall was accompanied by devastating floods in both southern Africa and eastern Australia: http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Nat...3?img_id=14720 http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Nat...=14705&src=map |

Then someone noticed a temperature anomaly that might be utilised in Satellite imagery. So these days the discussion on the subject are all about temperatures. Which is a pity as the riddle is best analysed by the conduct of pressure systems. Bear that in mind as you delve into this: "La Niña is characterized by unusually cold ocean temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific. [In] strong La Niña conditions,... the Eastern Pacific is cooler than usual, and the cool water extends farther westward than is usual In the U.S., winter temperatures are warmer than normal in the South- east, and cooler than normal in the Northwest. http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/tao/elnino/la-nina-story.html "And to the lurkers of the congregation in sci.geo.earthquakes I write: These are the things that he says who has the irredeemably witty but pitiless repartee, "I know where you live." "That is where the seat of resistance is; and yet you keep on reading my outpourings but you left me to my own devices, you apathetic." Weatherlawyer, the faithful one, who'd have been mortified at your side, by the trolls if he were not such a genius. "'Nevertheless, I have a few things against you, that you have there those holding fast the teaching of trolls, following feeling silly to put a stumbling block before the lurkers there, to swallow their nothingnesses and to commit themselves to idiocy. You also have those holding fast the teaching of the sect of Accidense likewise. Pull your bloody fingers out will you? If you do not, you don't have much time left and I will war with them with the long sword of my killfiles. Let the one who has an ear hear what the Weatherlawyer says to the groups: To him that conquers I will give some of the hidden mania, and he will get stoned, and see things no one knows except the ones taking it in.' http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/tao/elnino/1997.html I suppose I have to put together a list of likely explanations for the events depicted in the chart he http://www.cpc.noaa.gov/products/ana...nsoyears.shtml Daunting. |
