Half a million people in the Indian state of Bihar remain stranded in
villages which have been devastated by massive flooding, officials
say.

A BBC correspondent reports chaotic scenes as soldiers try to reach
those cut off and people attempt to scramble from rooftops into rescue
boats.

With 1.2 million people homeless, India is struggling to cope with the
crisis.

The flood waters are spreading to new areas, and conditions in relief
camps are overcrowded and unsanitary.

The floods are known to have killed at least 75 people in Bihar but
the death toll could climb once the situation in remote areas
emerges.

More news from the same site:

An earthquake in south-western China has killed 22 people and injured
more than 100, state media says.

The 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck at 1630 local time (0730 GMT),
close to the town of Panzhihua in Sichuan province, near the border
with Yunnan.

Xinhua news agency reported that attempts to assist survivors were
being hampered by heavy rain.

Both provinces were severely affected by a devastating earthquake in
May which left almost 70,000 people dead.

I went there looking for Chinese weather charts. Stupid I know; to say
the site is a crap-fest is to invite their security to get on my back
once more. And issuing death threats to certain stupid BBC officials
is a dangerous sport these days.

Pity.

Take them down!

Wait,
two almost pairs means both storms if said storms ar in the same small
basin?

As of mid day 1st September their speeds were 115 mph and 50 mph,
Gustav and Hanna, respectively.

And if the broaching of Gustav brings a quake to the west coast of
ther USA? Does that mean the arrival of a low or an high onland at any
time and any place can also signify an earhtquake.

And was the death of hundreds just to see worth it?
I have to confess that my interest at least would never have been
piqued had they not been interesting.

But the deaths are down to people like the Major of New Orleans or
what used to be New Orleans in the days when it was a major city. I
wonder how many died in socialist Cuba.

It would emphasise my point if there were fewer than in the free
countries nearby.

Powerful Gustav leaves Cuba; New Orleans evacuates

By WILL WEISSERT – 15 hours ago

HAVANA (AP) — Cubans returned from shelters to find flooded homes and
washed-out roads Sunday, but no deaths were reported after a monstrous
Hurricane Gustav roared across the island and into the oil-rich Gulf
of Mexico.

Gustav hit the Isla de la Juventud south of the Cuban mainland just
short of a top-scale Category 5 hurricane with screaming 140 mph (220
kph) winds that toppled telephone poles and fruit trees, shattered
windows and leveled some homes:

Gustav earlier killed 94 people by triggering floods and landslides in
Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Jamaica's Emergency
Management office on Sunday raised Gustav's death toll there to 10
from seven, and Haiti upped its count from 66 to 76.

But in Cuba, none of the reported injuries were life-threatening.

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5g...Gi8owD92THN402

I doubt you can call Haiti a free country but on a scale of chimpanzee
to human, it is more like the USA than Cuba in its style of
government.

Sounds daft does it not? Then you find out the USA's dirtiest secret:
Mexico is considered a free country in every aspect of USA life except
its political arena.

Which explains the border patrol mentality, it's soooo Russian. Pity
it only works on Manuels and not Gustavs.
