churning toward the Central Pacific.
MORE
HNN Hurricane Center

Tropical Storm Miriam is about 1,230 miles east of Hilo, moving west
near 13 mph.

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, the storm had maximum sustained winds near 60 mph.

The current forecast track has it heading north-northwest, and some
gradual strengthening is expected through Thursday before it starts to
weaken.

The other cyclone forecasters are tracking closely: Tropical Storm Norman.

The National Hurricane Center said Norman was 455 miles southwest of the
southern tip of Baja California, Mexico on Tuesday evening, or about
2,699 miles from Hilo.

Default Hurricane Norman; Also watching Miriam and Olivia

Hurricane Norman; Also watching Miriam and Olivia
9/2/2018 10:50:00 AM
Full story: https://www.accuweather.com/en/hurricane/east-pacific

Norman is currently a Category 4 hurricane around 1,300 miles
west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Norman will
maintain its strength for now, but should gradually weaken later this
week as it moves into an area with a bit more shear and cooler waters.
Although Norman poses no threat to land at this time, it may track
nearby to the east and north of the Hawaiian Islands late this week.
Residents and those with interests across Hawaii should keep checking
back with AccuWeather.com for the latest information on this storm.

In the Central Pacific basin, Miriam has weakened to a tropical
depression and is now centered about 840 miles northeast of Hilo,
Hawaii. Miriam will pose no direct threat to land over at least the next
five days, but large ocean swells generated by Miriam may cause higher
surf along the east-facing coastlines of Hawaii over the next few days.

Tropical Storm Olivia is currently centered 440 miles to the
south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Strengthening is
expected over the next few days and will likely become a hurricane on
Monday, perhaps even becoming a major hurricane (Category 3 or stronger)
by the middle of the week. At this time, no direct impact to land is
expected over the next seven days.

Full story:

Hurricane Norman is still cranking off to the west at 17kts and will
soon enter the Central Pacific. Despite Norman's intensity and
impressive run late last week, the system's small size and track to the
west were major limiters on Southern California swell production ...

Tropical Storm Olivia continues along a slow track to the west inside
the SoCal swell window. Olivia is on the small-midsize side, fortunately
the tropical cyclone is largest on the eastern side of the storm and is
well located to add supplemental tropical swell through the middle to
end of the week .... more ....

Hurricane Norman sparks Hawaii health warning as SEWAGE enters waters
Full story:
https://www.express.co.uk/news/world...hc-brown-water

HURRICANE Norman has sparked an urgent health warning in Hawaii, where
heavy rain has resulted in sewage overflowing into coastal waters.

A message from Hawaii Civil Defense said a “brown water advisory” was
now in place due to the risk of contamination of waters in coastal
communities.

Residents have been warned to avoid entering water which has been
impacted by runoff, which could include sewage and dead animals.

The alert said: “The Department of Health has issued a Brown Water
Advisory for Hilo Bay, and up the Hamakua Coast to Laupahoehoe on Hawaii
Island.

“Heavy rain has resulted in storm water runoff entering the waters of
the eastern coast of Hawaii Island.

Gov. Ige signs emergency proclamation for Hurricane Olivia
Full story:
http://www.staradvertiser.com/2018/09/09/breaking-news/olivia-updates-0909/

Gov. David Ige has signed an emergency proclamation that allows state
money to be appropriated for losses related to Hurricane Olivia and
declares the counties of Hawaii, Maui, Kalawao, Kauai and the City and
County of Honolulu disaster areas in order to implement emergency
management functions.

Even if Olivia arrives as a tropical storm, as predicted, Ige’s office
said today that the islands still could be hit with “high winds, heavy
rains, high surf, storm surges and flooding that threaten to harm
communities and cause extensive damage to public and private property
across the state.”
