The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), along with its 187 members, celebrates World Meteorological Day each year on March 23. The theme for this year is "Preventing and Mitigating Natural Disasters". The theme, according to WMO Secretary General Mr. Michel Jarraud, was chosen because 90 percent of all natural hazards are related to weather, climate, and water.
