Here is where some of the more interesting stations ended up overnight:

HIE: -29F
SLK: -27F
CAR: -14F
FVE: -14F
ART: -15F
BML: -26F

I realized that I don't have any easy way of determining the "winner"
because I would need a formula that takes into account how low the
station was and how far off the predicttion was etc. Besides, it was
just for fun anyway.

The Maine stations were surprisingly "warm" (it was even -7F here, so
-14F is no big deal). I think the lesson I learned from this is that the
favored radiational cooling spots (SLK, HIE and BML) will do better on a
cold clear night even if they have nominally "warmer" air over them than
northern Maine higher in the atmosphere.

Look for more fun and meaningless contests in the future!

peace,

in maine, temps never did get down quite as low as northern NH and SLK
mainly because of simple geography...
northern maine is flatter and the winds never did stay at 0000kts for more than an
hour or 2 at CAR
and FVE had light winds all night

if you look at BML
and HIE...

being in valleys, as soon as the atmosphere decoupled... off they fell like an anchor
off a deck.

as i said yesterday:

ther contenders for lowest temps from co-op contender group:

Island Pond, Vermont -30
Sutton, Vermont -28
Tupper Lake NY -20
Colebrook, NH -26
Dixeville notch, NH -16
Pittsburg, NH ?
Allagash, ME -36
Clayton Lake, ME -33
