Is anyone else a star-watcher, as I am? (Hey, it's kinda weather related,
isn't it? Has to be nice and clear to see the stars!) Isn't the crescent moon with Venus spectacular? And Mars is coming in to the picture, too! -Perry- -- This article was auto-posted by the ne.weather.moderated Weatherbot program. P.S.
To see a collection of amateur photos of the moon/Venus pair from 2/23: http://www.universetoday.com/am/publ...n.html?2422004 Also, mark your calendars for comet-watching! There will be two comets visible at the same time: Comet Neat passes closest to Earth on May 7 and will be visible near the horizon just after sunset. Comet Linear passes closest on May 19 and should be bright enough to be visible where there's light-pollution. "Perry" wrote in message ... Is anyone else a star-watcher, as I am? I am not really a star-watcher per se, but I really love going out and looking at the night sky .. especially on these cold, crisp winter nights. We live far from "civilization" and after the eyes adjust you can see so many stars. Last night when I was getting wood I just stopped for a while and stared up there... really puts things in perspective. I love seeing Orion in the winter. peace, -*- charles -- This article was auto-posted by the ne.weather.moderated Weatherbot program. It always surprises me, when I go to Maine, how many more stars are visible
than down here in light-polluted Framingham. I wish more emphasis was placed on shielded lighting. I really foresee the day when we won't be able to see Orion in the night sky. -Perry- "Charles M. The good thing at least is that from Framingham, you don't have to drive *too* far to find a place that at least has a little less light pollution. A 20 minute jaunt NW would probably improve matters greatly. Have you heard about the Dark Sky Association? They may have some tips.. http://www.darksky.org/ peace, -*- charles -- This article was auto-posted by the ne.weather.moderated Weatherbot program. Charles,
There's a lovely park in a dark neighborhood nearby (Callahan Park) that, although subject to the general light pollution, doesn't have any streetlights or other local lighting which impairs viewing. I go there to view meteor showers and the lunar eclipse and such, and it's quite nice viewing. Yes, actually I have heard of DSA, and have even sent some of their information to light-polluting neighbors. ![]() -Perry- "Charles M. Kozierok" wrote in message ...
