For those who simply cannot get enough of winter...
![]() Check out those winds! http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2004/02/26/361983-cp.html SYDNEY, N.S. (CP) - Parts of Atlantic Canada were in the grips of blizzard conditions Thursday that caused major travel disruptions. The storm was lashing Cape Breton, Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island. High winds along with between 10 to 20 centimetres of snow were lashing Cape Breton Island. The Canso Causeway was closed. Schools and a number of businesses were also closed and poor visibility had police warning motorists to stay off the roads. The Department of Transportation was also warning about road conditions and asked motorists to avoid travelling on the Cabot Trail north of Cape Smokey and between Margaree Harbour and Cheticamp. Marine Atlantic's late morning crossing from North Sydney to Port aux Basques, Nfld., was also postponed until Thursday night, weather permitting. Meanwhile, many parts of Newfoundland were being hit by the storm. Western and central Newfoundland were going through a blizzard, while further east, freezing rain or rain was hitting the Burin and Avalon peninsulas. Most areas were experiencing high winds and the Marine Atlantic ferry Joseph and Clara Smallwood was holding off Port aux Basques, Nfld., because the wind was gusting up to 110 kilometres an hour. .... peace, -*- Charles M. what do those winds translate to in MPH Charles ?
I'm not Charles, but: I'll bet you'll see the answer the next time you look at your speedometer. :-) And believe it or not, you can ask Google. Go to http://www.google.com and type "110 kilometers per hour to miles per hour" and it'll tell you! (68+ MPH) Also useful for converting to and from knots (1 knot=1.15 MPH) - Steve Stein -- This article was auto-posted by the ne.weather.moderated Weatherbot program.
