We were busy watching the skies from southwestern and central
Connecticut as Tropical Storm "Charley" moved up the coast Saturday night. The cloud structure was very poor. One of the first rules in forecasting is that this is a red flag against the idea of any approaching organized storm. A weak cloud structure, when an event is expected, indicates less in the way of forecasted weather. Observers on the ground see what satellites often miss, and the fact is that the automated stations are not doing the job that these experienced meteorological on site observers were doing just twenty years ago, and as they are still doing today in other nations around the world including Canada. -- This article was auto-posted by the ne.weather.moderated Weatherbot program.
