Default A look at precipitation efficient here in Ashland, MA so far thisyear...

I posted this on Todd's group this moring...

The left figure is precip total for that month. The middle figure is number
of days with measurable precipitation (days .01"). The right column is
precip per precipitation day.

January 1.11" 11 0.10"
February 1.66" 4 0.42"
March 3.82" 18 0.21"
April 8.74" 13 0.67"
May 4.2" 15 0.28"
June 1.35" 12 0.11"
July 4.68" 11 0.43"
August 5.07" 10 0.51"
September 8.63" 8 1.08"

Notice that, thanks to tropical remnants this past month we had a large
total of 8.63" with only 8 days with measurable precipitation. 8.63"/8 =
1.08" per precipitation day. In other words, on each day I observed
measurable precip here, I measured on the average over 1" of rainfall! We
had a tad more in April but this fell over 13 days for 8.74"/13 days = .67"
per precip day.

Contrast the above to January where I melted 1.11" water with 11 days with
measurable for an average of only .10" per precip (snow?) day. * June, as
well, was not very efficient month with only .11" per precip day.

January 1.11" 11 0.10"
February 1.66" 4 0.42"
March 3.82" 18 0.21"
April 8.74" 13 0.67"
May 4.2" 15 0.28"
June 1.35" 12 0.11"
July 4.68" 11 0.43"
August 5.07" 10 0.51"
September 8.63" 8 1.08"

Jot - Ashland, MA

*Recall extremely cold in January with average high/low 26/11 and anomalous
departure of -7. Put another way, surface airmass unable to support no more
than dribs and drabs of moisture!
