Hello Western europe is suffering extreme weather conditions, especially since the beginning of august. Situation is said to have reached critical conditions especially in Paris Area. (where an increaded death ratio is imputed to heat) Furthermore, the situation, although a little cooler today since yesterday's storms, is supposed to climax again next week. One thing comes to my mind whereas I am totally ignorant of these meterorological / astronomical sciences. Is it thinkable (I repeat, this is only an hypothesis of an ignorant person) that these latest days vincinity of Mars could explain meteorological extreme situation ??? What are your opinions on this ?? Absolutely no possible connection. Mars' gravititational effects on Earth are miniscule compared to those of the moon, and there is still scant evidence to any obvious effects on sensible weather caused by the moon. In spite of the media hype on the current Mars opposition, Mars is not all that much closer this time than any other opposition, which occur about every 18 months - a million miles closer maybe, but still nearly 40 million miles away. I've actually heard media people say things like "Be sure to take a look at Mars on August 27 - after that day, you won't be able to see it again for another 60,000 years!" Yeesh... It is a beautiful sight, though, especially the other night when it appeared so close to the moon in the sky. I hope you folks get some relief soon; I've heard the terrible reports of the many deaths in France caused by the heat. Bob ^,,^ |

Concerning the weather here, things seem to lower a little for two days due to two enormous storms in my area (Lyon, center east). Things strange, these two storms were extremely filled with lightnings and winds (thus NOISY !!!) but extremely poor in rain. we now have about 36-40 °C at day (flat temperatures) and around 26-27 at night (flat temperatures). Concerning the number of deaths, the official number claimed by the government raises to 3500 today for the whole country (was 3000 yesterday for only Paris area). I find it strange; it seems really huge, it is not the first time France suffers heat wave at summer, see last year, for example. Is is somekind of a showbizz gloss, an antigovernmental strike, or was the temperature really higher than the figures given ? here is a tight resume of the situation today. bye |
