Yes. Yap wasn't it? The briefer at map discussion found some. IIRC
the highest wind he saw (by 11 am EDT) was in the 50 knot range.

That was about 6hrs before wall impact.

I don't know if it is a common coincident but the storm occurred at the
same time as an earthquake there, did it not?

I look at the neic updates listings but never get around to the cyclone
watch pages. Got a link anyone?

For what it is worth (none of my forecasts for the UK have come true so
far this year) there is a run of "similar" weather spells due in the
next few weeks:

19 April 13:24. Ridges, cols or troughs.
27 April 17:39. Ridges, cols or troughs, heading for fine and windy.

04 May 20:36. Ridges, cols or troughs.
11 May 11:07. Fine, high pressure.
19 May 04:55. Fine, high pressure.
27 May 08:02. Fine, high pressure.

http://hometown.aol.co.uk/weatherlaw...ewsletter.html

I don't know if that means more desperately violent hurricanes or just a
few high mag. earthquakes. It should be pretty interesting though.

I'll show you mine please show me yours:

http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/bulletin/bulletin.html

2004/04/08 14:35:30 5.70S 148.71E 168.4 4.7 NEW BRITAIN REGION, P.N.G.
2004/04/08 13:56:11 7.83S 154.47E 94.6 5.0 BOUGAINVILLE REGION, P.N.G.
2004/04/08 13:30:52 3.26N 126.73E 40.4 4.7 KEPULAUAN TALAUD, INDONESIA
2004/04/08 13:24:40 10.94N 141.34E 49.3 5.2 STATE OF YAP, MICRONESIA

This one will get you the recent month's summary so you can see that
they are not that rare in the region but Yap is not that common.
http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/qed/

The write up gives you the map location (not dissimilar to Papua New
Guinea.) I understand that it's a lot easier to locate quakes than
cyclones. You just sit back and wait for the earth to move. With storms
that occur outside the earth but inside the planet you have to have
someone on site to get blown away, or a very expensive toy floating past
taking photos. But an international database like the NEIC's is do-able
for tropical and extra tropical storms surely?
