Waves from Typhoon Aere crash against the sandstone shoreline outside
the city of Keelung, Taiwan
One of the year's biggest tropical storms is headed for southern Japan
as another one dies out in eastern China.

High waves from Typhoon Chaba already have drowned two people as the
storm approaches Japan's southern island of Kyushu. Chaba, with winds
of up to 180 kilometers an hour, is expected to make landfall on
Sunday.

Meanwhile, the remnants of Typhoon Aere are still bringing heavy rains
and high winds to coastal areas of eastern China. Tens of thousands of
people were evacuated before the storm hit. One man was reported
missing in the storm. Damage was reported heavy in Fujian and
neighboring Zhejiang provinces.

Aere killed at least 35 people in the Philippines, Taiwan and southern
Japan. Most of the deaths were attributed to landslides and flooding.
