Printer Friendly Version AP Photo AP Waves from Typhoon Aere crash against the sandstone shoreline outside the city of Keelung, Taiwan One of the year's biggest tropical storms is headed for southern Japan as another one dies out in eastern China. High waves from Typhoon Chaba already have drowned two people as the storm approaches Japan's southern island of Kyushu. Chaba, with winds of up to 180 kilometers an hour, is expected to make landfall on Sunday. Meanwhile, the remnants of Typhoon Aere are still bringing heavy rains and high winds to coastal areas of eastern China. Tens of thousands of people were evacuated before the storm hit. One man was reported missing in the storm. Damage was reported heavy in Fujian and neighboring Zhejiang provinces. Aere killed at least 35 people in the Philippines, Taiwan and southern Japan. Most of the deaths were attributed to landslides and flooding. |
